Gentle stretch to help your back pain

If anyone has ever received a massage from me you know that I am a big believer in getting my clients involved in helping their bodies feel better through showing self-care stretches and exercises to be done at home or at the office.  One of the biggest complaints I see at my office to treat with massage is low back pain.   A lot of the stretches that I recommend are taken from hatha yoga.  Here is a simple yoga pose called “Child’s Pose”.  Anyone can do it, and it’s so gently you may not even believe it is giving you any benefits depending on how flexible you are already.

Check it out on this video to see how to get the correct alignment, and give it a try, tell me what you think!

Can massage help you lose weight?

Many people during their massage will ask if I could just remove some of their “extra weight” in various areas of their bodies as I’m massaging. I usually laugh it off because and say if I could I’d be rich! Well, if you’ve ever wondered if massage can actually help you lose weight read this interesting article:

Health at your fingertips

Hello! My name is Julie Tidwell and I am a licensed massage therapist.  I have been practicing massage  since 1999 after  I graduated from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, which is now the Cortiva Chicago School of Massage Therapy, where I’m proud to say I teach part time at their Woodridge and Crystal Lake campuses. Since then I’ve worked in a variety of environments such as spas, fitness centers and chiropractic offices and have worked on thousands of people’s bodies  I love my work as I feel I am always learning what amazing capabilities our bodies have to heal themselves.

In 2004 I ventured out onto my own and started my private practice; Therapeutic Connections Massage & Wellness located in Lombard, IL.   I am passionate about helping people find ways to manage stress in their lives and pain without drugs whenever possible.  I use a combined approach of deep tissue/trigger point therapy, myofascial work, and a gentle but powerful therapy called Craniosacral therapy, which I will talk about in another blog.   I recently brought in massage therapist to work out of my office, Christine White who is an independent contractor .  She will be invited to share some blogs on here as well.

My main goal in blogging is to share some helpful information about mainting a healthy and balanced life in a through natural therapies and practices.  I also use and believe in Young Living Essential Oils.   In our western world full of commercials every 2 minutes about different pills you can take for every symptom with endless side effects, people need to know about other ways to be proactive and take your health into your own hands!

Ok, just a little more about me… I live in the western suburbs of Chicago, a vegetarian since 1994 (vegan for about 7 years within there), stay physically active by working out with lots of core based exercise including pilates and yoga, and formally Jeet Kune Do.  I also get outside to walk as much as the weather permits with my two dogs Kiwi and Sly.  In addition to my 2 cats, these are my “furrykids”, they bring joy to my life and make me laugh everyday.   Starting in September I hope to be volunteering along with my sweet pit bull mix; Kiwi, for an awesome group called Safe Humane Chicago.  They work to educate kids, teenagers and young adults in violent areas of the city to treat animals with kindness and respect and  stay out of or report dog fights.

I am also one who takes interest in natural health for animals as well, so I may post some topics covering that arena as well.  I will welcome any comments and feedback in any blog post.  You can leave a comment on the blog or even email me directly at julie@therapeuticconnections.com.  To find out more about my business, hours and services offered go to my website at: www.therapeuticconnections.com.
